Forty Days - Forty Items

Lenten Mission: A Season to Give

As we step into the sacred season of Lent, it's a time for reflection, renewal—and reaching out. This year, we invite you to join our church in a special mission of generosity and compassion.

Beginning Wednesday, March 5—the first day of Lent—we challenge you to participate in our “40 Days, 40 Items” clothing drive.
Each day, remove one item from your closet that you no longer wear or need. Place it in a designated bag. At the end of the 40 days, bring your filled bag to church. We will ensure these donations reach local shelters and community organizations where they’ll be a true blessing to those in need.

Let’s call it what it is: Spring cleaning with a purpose!
We ask that all items be clean and in good condition. Donations can include adult and children’s clothing, jackets, coats, belts, shoes, hats, gloves—anything that can offer warmth, comfort, or dignity to someone else.

Let’s be the hands and feet of Christ in this world.
Together, we can turn closets into kindness.

Easter Egg Hunt
Each Easter season, our church lawn transforms into a joyful space filled with laughter, excitement—and a whole lot of eggs!

We welcome local children and their families to join us for our Annual Easter Egg Hunt, where little ones can meet the Easter Bunny, enjoy sweet treats, and hunt for colorful eggs hidden around the church grounds.

It’s more than just fun—it’s fellowship. This mission brings our community together, sharing the joy and hope of Easter in a way kids will never forget.

All are welcome. All are loved. All are invited.

Come celebrate the risen Christ with smiles, surprises, and a few chocolate bunnies along the way!

October Mission: Sock-tober!

This October, we’re on a mission to collect new socks of all sizes and colors—
Small socks, big socks, even socks somewhere in between!
Bright orange, classic blue, polka dots or plain—as long as they’re new, they’ll do!

Socks are one of the most requested (and least donated) items at shelters.
Your donations will go to children at Brittonkill and individuals of all ages at Joseph’s House.

A collection bin is located in the narthex. Let’s fill it up and help keep feet warm and spirits lifted this chilly season.

Join us in this simple, powerful act of love. Thank you for being a part of it!

Holiday Mission: The Hat, Mitten & Scarf Tree

Each holiday season, our church narthex is home to a very special tree—one that doesn’t grow leaves, but instead blossoms with warmth.

Our Hat, Mitten & Scarf Tree invites the community to cover its branches with new or gently used winter accessories—hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves. As the tree fills, so do the hearts of those giving and receiving.

Once full, the items are delivered to Christ Church UMC, where they’re individually packaged and thoughtfully placed on fences and in public spaces throughout the community. There are no lines, no sign-ups, no red tape—just unconditional warmth for anyone who needs it.

This mission allows neighbors in need to take what they need, when they need it—with dignity, privacy, and love.
Help us wrap our community in care—one hat, one scarf, one mitten at a time.

Christmas Mission: The Giving Tree

Each Christmas, CBUMC spreads the joy of the season through our Giving Tree mission—an outreach of love, generosity, and hope.

We “adopt” children from local families in need, and our tree in the narthex blossoms with tags listing their Christmas wishes. Members of our church family and community select a tag (or a few!), shop for gifts, and return them lovingly wrapped—ready to bring joy to a child on Christmas morning.

It’s a beautiful way to live out the spirit of giving and remind others—and ourselves—that they are seen, loved, and not forgotten.

Help us light up hearts this Christmas—one gift at a time.
